Pianomachine is the result of organological research carried out with engineering students at Insa Lyon, then with the Sonopopée collective (Vivien Trelcat, Max Lance, Nicolas Canot). The result is a hybrid instrument in which robotic modules (strikers, resonators, bouncing masses, etc.) are grafted into the body of the piano, acting on the strings and structure. The instrument is conceived as an extension of the performer’s power to act. Corps à corps is, by its very nature, that of a struggle as well as that of desire, sensuality and pleasure, the union of lovers. But above all, it’s what has linked men and machines for centuries. For it’s a question of bringing these bodies, the human and the instrument, into resonance, of speaking of the inside and the outside, of what is given to be seen and heard and what is not. A dialogue will develop between the two “subjects” through exchanges of sound, words and gestures, in a kind of visual narrative.
